How to use it:
This strategy helps you to make a decision about something. When you are faced with a lot of choices on what to do (eg which charity your class will support) you develop some criteria (or guidelines) for making your choice. You then rate each of those criteria from 1 (low) to 5 (high).

Why it’s important to use it:
At some stage in your life, you will need to make a decision about something. It might be which piece of clothing you will buy, or which weekend job you will choose. Sometimes, you just have to make a choice. So it’s very handy when you have a strategy that can help you to decide on what to do.

Some variations:
Rather than using a full set of criteria to make your decision, simply follow this process:

  • Describe the decision that you are thinking about choosing
  • Outline the Good and Bad points about the consequences of that choice
